Winter Weather in Providence (Village, tx)

We woke up this morning to cold wet drizzly weather. Around lunchtime it started snowing and it was coming down fast and sticking. The kids were glued to the windows and singing Christmas songs and just dying to get out there. We know better than to wait around cause snow doesn't stay here long. We started scrambling to get enough warm clothes on everyone to go out and play. We get snow like once a year, so it's not like we have snow boots and snow pants or anything. Bundling up our kids means layers - tights/t-shirts/jeans/sweatshirts/fleece/hoodies/jackets for the big kids. Cotton footie pajamas covered with fleece pajamas and topped off with a hooded jacket for the little guys. Of course we can't forget the classic sock/baggie/sock combo as a warm and waterproof glove substitute. Everyone pottied? Out the door!

Fox and Cash spent most the time standing looking cold, yelling at the neighbors dogs, and yelling at the snow.

Cash ate a metric ton of snow. Gotta stay hydrated!

Marvel and Jet got busy doing all the required snow activities.
Snow Angels? Check!

Snow Balls? Check!

Snowman? Umm...

and of course we could never forget the snow butt prints (Marvel was very proud of this).

Our house looks so pretty in the snow (you can't even see the yard!).

and here's a freebie pic of snugly Cassius warming up with Mama.

So We Have These Windows...

So we have these windows in our dining room. They face directly into our neighbor's house. Also, the bus stops behind our house so all the kids cut between there to get home after school. We really do want some kind of window covering there. Blinds are a nightmare with kids. Curtains in the room where the kids eat would probably have to be washed daily. So I saw this window film on Amazon and decided it was worth a try. I really liked the colors and they kind of go with the dining room.

So we got it yesterday and I liked the colors even more in person.

It went on really easily. It's just contact paper - which I use all the time to "laminate" stuff.

It looks even better on the windows than I expected.

The seams barely show - and not because I did such a super wonderful job. ;-)

I think it looks great. I'll have to stay up past the twins bedtime some night this week to touch up the edges with a utility knife.
Maybe someday I will get fancy custom stained glass windows for this room. For now I'm really happy with something pretty that gives us a little privacy and is easy to wipe ketchup off of.

Word Rocks Rock!

We made these out of some flat glass stones from Dollar Tree. It's one of Jet and Marvel's favorite school activities. I wrote the words on paper then we cut them out and glued them to the underside of the stones.

They already had phrases in mind when we got them out today.

Jet can read all the words in our set now. I think it's time to make some more!

Marvel is not really reading yet, but she does know most of these words on sight.

Of course, the game gets a little silly. By the end it is usually a competition to see who can make the silliest sentence/phrase.

You can make your sister sit on pizza.

Or you could put your dad in a can.

The possibilities are endless.

I have been adding more rocks as the kids need more words. I think my new fav method is clipping words out of magazines.

Back to School

After a long winter break we are back to the books today. Jet's reading work took twice as long as usual...then he realized he accidentally did two lessons. They zipped through some worksheets (with their new scented pencils!) and were done with everything by lunchtime. That has left them free to run around the house screaming like banshees while I tried to get the twins to nap. Cash played upstairs with them for awhile and Fox finally fell asleep. I was heading up to get Cassius for nap I bumped into jet on the stairs - giggling and pointing around the corner. This is what I found there.

Jet and Marvel are still half dressed so I didn't manage to get any pics of them studiously working on handwriting and math, but I think the pictures of the baby sleeping on the stairs give a better idea of what our day was like.
